More Than a Photographer

Hi, I'm Bryan Nelson, though most people know me as BNelly. I'm the owner and lead photographer of BNelly Photography, based in Phoenix, Arizona. I specialize in business branding, corporate headshots, events, weddings, editorial, and commercial photography, helping people and organizations tell authentic stories through powerful imagery.

For me, photography has never been about simply taking pictures. It's about preserving moments, building trust, and creating images that continue to tell a story long after the moment has passed. Every person, every business, and every event has a story worth remembering. My job is to make sure it's told beautifully.

A Foundation Built on Service

Long before I picked up a camera professionally, my career was centered on serving others.

I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve while also building a career in law enforcement with the Hartford Police Department in Connecticut. During my years as a police officer and detective, I investigated complex cases, documented crime scenes, interviewed witnesses, and learned the importance of patience, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Photography was often an essential part of those investigations. Every photograph needed to be accurate. Every angle mattered. Every detail could tell part of the story.

Although the subject matter was very different from what I photograph today, those experiences shaped how I see the world through a camera. They taught me to notice what others often overlook, anticipate meaningful moments, and remain calm under pressure. Those same skills now help me create images that are intentional, authentic, and impactful.

Today, I continue serving my community as a Criminal Defense Investigator while pursuing my passion for professional photography through BNelly Photography.

Turning Passion Into Purpose

Photography began as a creative outlet, but it quickly became something much more meaningful.

I realized that while my previous career documented some of life's most difficult moments, photography gave me the opportunity to document its most meaningful ones. A business owner launching a dream. A couple beginning a new chapter together. A nonprofit making a difference. A graduate celebrating years of hard work. A family creating memories they'll treasure for generations.

Those moments deserve more than snapshots. They deserve photographs that preserve emotion, personality, and purpose. That realization inspired me to build BNelly Photography.

My style blends documentary storytelling with polished editorial imagery.

Rather than relying on stiff poses or forced smiles, I focus on genuine interaction, natural expressions, and authentic moments. Whether I'm photographing a CEO, a wedding couple, or a nonprofit event, I want every image to feel real.

Clients often tell me they appreciate how comfortable and relaxed they feel during a session. That's intentional. Many people believe they're "not photogenic." I don't. I believe everyone photographs well when they're comfortable, confident, and simply allowed to be themselves. Creating that environment is one of the most important parts of my job.

BNelly Photography proudly serves clients throughout the greater Phoenix area, including Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Paradise Valley, and surrounding communities.

While Arizona is home, I also travel for assignments throughout the United States and abroad.

I've had the privilege of working with entrepreneurs, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, corporate teams, families, and individuals who all share one thing in common: they care about telling their story well.

Photography is constantly evolving, and so am I. I regularly invest in professional education, advanced training, and new technology to ensure my clients receive the highest quality experience possible. As an FAA Part 107 Certified Remote Pilot, I also offer professional drone photography and aerial imagery, expanding the creative possibilities available to my clients.

I believe great photographers never stop learning, and that commitment allows me to continually refine my craft while delivering images that meet today's highest professional standards.
